Human Resources (HR) Specialist

St. Louis | Hybrid


The Human Resource Specialist will perform administrative tasks and services in support of the daily functions of MediaCross' human resource department, including interviewing, hiring and onboarding staff, and administering pay, benefits, and leave. Reports to Vice President, HR & Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Tracks and documents mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, etc.
  • Recruits, interviews and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department, including but not limited to supporting senior HR staff and leadership with compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • May assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and reporting.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  • Conducts or assists with new hire orientation.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • Bi-monthly travel (every two months) to MediaCross' Norfolk, VA office to support HR-related needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least two years of human resources experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient working on a computer with a macOS operating system.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • Due to the nature of this position, all offers of employment are conditioned upon clear results of a thorough background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to Virginia office every two months, and navigate both St. Louis and Virginia office facilities.
